CaptainQQ: Fantastic game! Super unique and captivating! As others have mentioned, controls are sometimes weird. Attempting to walk on a movable object can sometimes just select the object so I spam tap to try to walk and eventually it works. Also actually tapping a level was kind of a pain... it also completely froze my phone 3 times on big levels. DESPITE ALL THIS, the challenging puzzles were incredibly satisfying to complete, and I wanted more. WARNING: You will witness violent murder in cutscenes
Matthew Bradley: Neat game, but has some pretty major memory leaks. If you notice some animations start getting delayed, I recommend closing & reopening the game. Otherwise you might get to a point where it completely freezes up your phone. (mine has 12gb of ram, still locked up...). To the dev, I hope you can fix these memory leaks?. I first noticed it when I got to River 5 - Ferry within my first session. Can't fit more details here so I'll shoot you an email.
Ashley Barnes: Beautiful! Every detail is so well thought through. It's not an easy story - it's quite terrifying at some points - but the game play is fluid and takes you on a moody journey, the sound of ragged breathing adding to the atmosphere without creating annoyance or tension. Love this game, because it's hugely immersive, yet you can jump in for a quick game too. Ticks all the boxes!

However, a few points to improve: the cutscenes (even though animated) are very brutal; could use some "loading" indication between levels, and also some hints when introducing a new mechanic in some levels.
Dan J. Boyd: Played the Beta demo when it first came out then forgot all about it for what, three years? Couldn't afford the fill version anyway. Now I can afford it, so I bought the thing. Love the whole concept. I've been a fan of quirky, minimalist visuals and complex puzzles, ever since I played Ecstatica 2, back in 1997. Controls are easy, storytelling concise and easily understood by any nationality.
A Google user: Not really sure what I'm playing. It reminds a little of Monument valley in terms of puzzles, but instead of Escher-perspectives there are puzzles regarding light and shadows. This is all good, but the story aspect is even better. Though be warned : this might be animated with kid-friendly aesthetics but it is NOT a kid-friendly game (rather the opposite : it's one of the few games where you play an antihero). Still : all in all a gem in every sense. :-)

Every level in the beta was challenging, and each world terrifying, but the other levels of the full version fail to make the surrounding darkness scary, or even to show it in the first place. The graveyard levels were horrid timer-fests. The game was rather unstable sometimes. The cutscenes added little to the story or ambience, and were mostly confusing. Four stars because I love the rest. I'd like to say more, but I lack space.

This is probably mostly due to the tone of game, which is somewhat off-putting to me (bleak environment and unexplained violence). The story does not seem to progress much: before every cut-scene I can be quite certain, that it will involve the protagonist running away and the "furries" hunting him violently down.

As the developers have stated in their blog, the game was inspired by Monument Valley, and it definitely shows, from the level design to the graphics. While some of the puzzles are just a matter of trying out different combinations of states, some are really inspired, like Labyrinth (level 5-5), Blind (6-2), and the last level, Gates (7-5). Unfortunately, I could not give the full 5 stars. For me, there's no question that Monument Valley deserves the perfect rating for its unparalleled sublime beauty, but Where Shadows Slumber just misses the mark. The story kind of reminds me of the game Journey, but it leaves too many questions for comfort, even setting aside the brutality of it. Sometimes the game's control is a bit too fiddly where when I am trying to manipulate a level mechanism but instead end up moving Obe. Also, the game is a bit buggy wherein the display remains black when I start a new level or the sounds disappear, necessitating that I restart the game. (I have already mentioned this buggy behavior in my feedback of the beta version.)
