Will Krska: The only reason I use this is I communicate with people over DMS. I don't want anything to do with my timeline. But my goodness is this a terrible, terrible app. Notifications are flakey, the camera often crashes, and whenever I tap on a notification and open the app, the whole text chat moves off screen so I have to relaunch the app! Also I hate the swipe to close chat feature. I'd rather be able to reply or see the time I sent the message.

Andrew Clarkin: The New UI is so annoying, I like that I am able to pin friends but everything is worse. I miss having a close friends and everyone sections to messages and stories. I find it very annoying how people move around all the time and you can't open a chat without view their story.

Jack Raymond: Frustrating changes that makes this a story viewing app instead of a messanger. Apparently the original design wasn't addicting enough so they just changed the purpose of the app instead to increase engagement. The only reason I have an Instagram account is because I have friends who insist on using it for messaging. Hopefully enough negative reviews will force their hand to create a less nonsensical UI.

I hate that I'd you want to chat with someone you have to watch their stories first, and one of the only reasons I downloaded this was to do gifs in chat and you took that away? I'll go back to using the regular IG to chat. Why fix things that aren't broken??

Gwen Kubilus: it WAS awesome. the last update ruined it. constantly crashes, can't add/remove people, no way of knowing who new messages are from (counters don't actually show up), exits stories after each friend's, rather than letting you go straight through the unseen ones, etc - just awful

Josiah Keeler: Bro what the actual heck. How do you ruin something so drastically. July update completely broke the app. Can't upload stories, can't DM people easily, can't sort close friends easily. Why change something that wasn't broken? Can't even reccomend this app to friends anymore. Uninstalling and reverting back to the original version.

Alysia Casper: Wish I hadn't updated, can no longer view & preview stories on their own page, nor can messages be previewed on their own page. Close friends & mutuals aren't separated, & accounts I've communicated with but don't follow are now listed. Some close friends aren't even listed. Practically useless to have apart from the Instagram app now. It's basically just an extremely inconvenient messaging app that doesn't let you access all your messages. Will be deleting if old features aren't restored.

Satyam Nath: *new update sucks please change it back I cant see my own story anymore???? Old review: Love it, its a stripped down version of Instagram that only includes the conversational aspect. Initially I had instagram, but hated it for the useless features and uninstalled but then I found this perfect app that has only the aspects of insta that I WANT to keep. I havent gotten a single noticeable bug so far, so I don't know what everyone is complaining abt. I have an s10+ and it runs perfectly.

c e l: EDIT 7/28 UPDATE this update changed the whole layout in an effort to make it much more compact. however, the app can't even be opened without it crashing. it is completely unusable original review: i just wish there was the option to sort messages as "primary" and "general" instead of close friends or not, i think for an app whose almost only point is to message people, it does a worse job than the full instagram app.
